Alter Trade Corporation
Alter Trade Corporation
was established to engage in both domestic and international trading.
It's counterpart, Alter
Trade - Japan (ATJ) was set up to reach
out to the Japanese consumers. Together, ATC
and ATJ
became significant links between the marginalized Negros producers
and Japanese consumers in a relationship known as People to People
Trade.
The start of Mascobado Trading
- 1987
Mascobado
(muscovado sugar) became the first trading commodity. It was chosen
because sugar is representative of the struggles of the sugarcane
workers and farmers in Negros. Mascobado became a symbol
of solidarity between and among the Japanese consumers and sugarcane
producers. The first shipment of Mascobado to Japan was
in 1987. A year later, it was able to establish distribution channels
in Germany and Switzerland.
The start of Balangon Trading - 1989
In 1988,
ATC
started developing the Balangon (a native variety of green banana)
for trading in Japan. The first shipment of Balangon reached Japan
in 1989. The naturally grown Balangon gained wide patronage because
of its aromatic sweet-sourness taste, which the Japanese found
desirable.
Alter Trade Manufacturing Corporation (ATMC)
- 1992
As the market
expand and quality requirements for Mascobado increased,
the need for a new structure became evident. Hence, Alter
Trade Manufacturing Corporation was established
in 1992.
ATMC
processes Mascobado from sugarcane delivered by POs, then
pack and deliver the same to ATC
for trading. ATMC
is dedicated to developing technologies and systems to produce
quality Mascobado sugar for both international and domestic
markets.
